Mariani Wins At Meet of Champions, Kruetzer 7th
It was a good weekend for the St. Therese Mustangs Cross Country team with some terrific performances turned in by many runners.
At the Covington Catholic Invitational at the hilly Devou Park course, Maddie Mariani had her best run of the season, covering the 3,000-meter course in 12:10.2 to finish second out of 103 runners in the girls’ middle school race. Madison Boberg (13:17.3) finished 16th, Jeanna Carr (14:09.7) was 38th, Paige Doud (17:25.4) was 84th, and Madelyn Yeager (17:34.7) finished 87th. The girls’ team finished sixth overall. On the boys’ side, Kevin Kreutzer paced the Mustangs by finishing 16th out of 126 runners in a time of 11:22.6. Jacob Barth (12:02.4) was 40th, Adam Uhlenbrock (12:07.3) was 46th, Josh White (14:38.6) was 100th, and Ryan Wilking (19:23.5) was 124th. The Mustang boys were 10th.
At the Mason County Invitational, the girls’ elementary team scored 51 points to capture the team title for the second straight year, besting Hammer Athletics in a tie-breaker. Maria Broering finished a close second out of 111 competitors, touring the 1-mile course in 6:17. Faith Broering (6:39) was sixth, Sydney Duke (7:12) was 16th, Natalie Barth (7:23) was 20th, and Olivia Whitehead (7:26) finished 21st to round out the Mustang scoring. The key runner for the Mustangs on this day, however, was Emmy Osburg (8:06), who finished 49th overall, two seconds ahead of Hammer’s sixth runner to provide the tie-breaking edge for St. Therese. Olivia Hart (8:20) was 55th, Mackie Meadows (8:39) was 67th, Olivia Hoffstedder (8:44) finished 71st, and Madison Quandt (8:50) came home in 77th. On the boys’ side, Grant Uhlenbrock paced the Mustangs with seventh-place finish out of 135 runners, navigating the course in 6:03. Johnny Powers (6:43) was 27th, Will White (6:43) was 28th, Ryan Barth (7:03) finished 44th, and Brennan White (7:04) rounded out the top five in 45th place. Nathan Wood (7:33) was 75th, Charlie Ford (7:51) finished 89th, Ethan Ford (8:05) was 105th, and William Rapier (9:10) was 125th.
The Mustangs return to action this week at the Team KY race on Thursday, then the Scott Classic on Saturday.
